A restaurant in Copenhagen, called Noma, was recently named the world’s top restaurant by Restaurant magazine.

Recently, a Canadian cheese was given the title “Supreme Global Champion” at the Global Cheese Awards in England.
Margaret Peters entered her cheese, called Lankaaster, in the competition. Peters owns Glengarry Cheesemaking and Dairy Supply Ltd. in Lancaster, Ont.
It took the top prize, beating every contender in 167 categories.
Lankaaster was described this way, by the Globe and Mail’s cheese columnist, Sue Riedl:
The Lankaaster has “notes of caramel, butterscotch, pineapple and butter that linger on the palate.”
A team of business students from McGill University in Montreal have won $1-million for developing a nutritious, low-cost food made from insects.
Their new “power flour” will help feed poor people around the world.
Every year, the Hult Prize Foundation holds a contest for college and university students. They challenge the students to find ways to help solve social or environmental problems by developing new products or new businesses.
The prize was awarded on September 23 in New York City by former U.S. president Bill Clinton. Clinton chose the theme of world hunger for this year’s contest.
Ahmad Ashkar, the founder of the Hult Prize, said almost a billion people go hungry every day.
The winning team, which calls itself Aspire Food Group, developed a plan for adding dried and ground-up insects to flour to make it more nutritious.
A supermarket in England is taking packages of peanuts out of their stores because their containers do not say they “may contain peanuts.”
Booths is a grocery store chain; they have 29 locations in northern England. They pulled 300 of the packets off their shelves after a health agency issued an allergy alert.
The alert was issued because the food didn’t have a warning telling the customer that it might make people with allergies get sick.
The containers are labelled as “Whole Hearted Roasted Monkey Nuts.”
“Monkey nuts” is a British nickname for peanuts in the shell.
The allergy alert was issued by the Food Standards Agency (FSA), which is in charge of ensuring food safety in the United Kingdom.

Now, people in Montreal have a special treat in store for them.
The city’s mayor, Michael Applebaum, recently announced that the ban on food trucks has been lifted. That means that people may now be able to sample the city’s unparalleled cuisine from special food trucks on the street.
In many big cities, street vendors offer hot dogs and sausages from food trucks.
In typical Montreal style, the food trucks in that city will be a little different. The “street food” in Montreal will be “of a quality that is going to be highly respected and renowned,” the mayor said at a news conference, according to the Globe and Mail newspaper.
After the announcement, the mayor approached a food vendor called Grumman 78, which served him a Vietnamese-style taco and tomato salad with cornbread croutons.

A new study has found that people who eat a Mediterranean diet are less likely to suffer heart-related problems like a heart attack or a stroke.
The Mediterranean region comprises the 18 countries, plus Portugal, that border the Mediterranean Sea. It includes Spain, Greece, Italy, France, Egypt, Israel and Turkey.
People there eat lots of extra-virgin olive oil and nuts as well as fruit, fish, chicken, wine, beans and salads. They tend not to eat a lot of baked goods or pastries.

At least 2,200 people have gotten sick or shown symptoms and 22 people in Germany have died.
E. coli is short for Escherichia coli. It is a type of bacteria normally found in the body.
Most kinds (or “strains”) of E. coli are harmless and even help the body.
The strains included in the outbreak, however, are a harmful kind, causing food poisoning.
Food poisoning from E. coli usually happens when people eat unwashed vegetables or undercooked meat.
They will no longer be serving Whoppers at Sick Kids Hospital in Toronto, after the fast-food restaurant closed down in the food court there recently.
Canada’s largest hospital for children made the choice to close down the Burger King because of its unhealthy options such cheeseburgers and French fries, which are high in fat and salt.
The hospital is meant to offer healthy food choices for the visitors and staff. A doctor at Sick Kids named Vishal Avinashi started a Facebook group called, “Burger King should NOT be allowed to operate at Sick Kids Hospital.” There are 269 members in the group, and more are joining each day.
Avinashi tried to raise awareness of the messages that the hospital is sending by offering unhealthy options. He says the hospital is, “setting the wrong example” by allowing fast-food restaurants to sell unhealthy food there.
