One of the largest countries in which people opposed their leader was Egypt.

The protests ended when President Hosni Mubarak was driven out of office and put on trial.

Last June, Egypt’s first freely elected president took office.

But instead of trying to get everyone to agree on how to run the country, President Mohammed Morsi decided to give himself complete power over all laws and all the people.

He said this was the only way to get things done.

Again the protests started as people streamed into the streets because their rights had been removed.

Their message got to Morsi and he cancelled his plans for complete power.

Occupy Wall Street Heading To Toronto https://teachingkidsnews.com/2011/10/13/occupy-wall-street-heading-to-toronto/ https://teachingkidsnews.com/2011/10/13/occupy-wall-street-heading-to-toronto/#comments Fri, 14 Oct 2011 02:24:57 +0000 https://teachingkidsnews.com/?p=3705 The “Occupy Wall Street” movement is heading for Toronto and 950 other cities around the world.

In September, a poster in Adbusters magazine called for people to gather in New York to protest against big companies that make a lot of profit.

Although the protest was rather vague and unfocussed, young people came – and they kept coming.

They met in the “financial district” in New York, NY. The financial district is where many big companies have their headquarters, and where many stockbrokers (people who trade stocks) work.

It’s where a lot of profit is made.

Wall Street is a famous street that defines New York’s financial district.
