It's complicated--too complicated to explain fully here--but it's good to have an idea about what it is and why it is important.
Back in 1994, the US, Canada and Mexico made a deal to all become "trading partners." That means, each country would partner with the others to make it easy to buy and sell things and services back and forth. That deal was called NAFTA, the North American Free Trade Agreement.
When countries don't have a deal like that, it's sometimes hard for one country to sell things to another country.

Canada, Mexico, US To Co-Host 2026 World Cup (Men’s Soccer) https://teachingkidsnews.com/2018/06/17/canada-mexico-us-to-co-host-2026-world-cup-mens-soccer/ Mon, 18 Jun 2018 01:22:21 +0000 https://teachingkidsnews.com/?p=17078 The FIFA World Cup, the biggest event in men's soccer--perhaps in sports, period--will be co-hosted jointly in 2026 by Canada, Mexico and the United States.
Each of the three countries will host some of the games. One proposal is for Canada and Mexico to each host 10 games, and for the United States to host 60 games.
Canada hosted the women's world cup in 2015, one of only four countries to host both events.

Mexico Puts A Tax On Sugary Soft Drinks https://teachingkidsnews.com/2014/01/27/1-mexico-puts-tax-sugary-soft-drinks/ Tue, 28 Jan 2014 02:19:59 +0000 https://teachingkidsnews.com/?p=12165 The people of Mexico drink more soft drinks than people in any other country in the world.

Last fall, the government of Mexico made a decision to increase the taxes on soft drinks with sugar.

They said that soft drinks help to create health problems like obesity and diabetes. That tax is starting now.

In the past, Mexico has done other things to reduce sugar and fat in schools, like removing unhealthy foods from vending machines.

But some people say this kind of tax to make people healthier doesn’t work.

In 2011 another country, Denmark, put a tax on fatty foods for the same reason: to improve people’s health. But they removed it a year later because it caused more problems than it solved.

Unlocking The Mysteries Of The Monarch Butterfly’s Incredible Journey https://teachingkidsnews.com/2013/04/11/1-unlocking-the-mysteries-of-the-monarch-butterflys-incredible-journey/ https://teachingkidsnews.com/2013/04/11/1-unlocking-the-mysteries-of-the-monarch-butterflys-incredible-journey/#comments Fri, 12 Apr 2013 01:29:29 +0000 https://teachingkidsnews.com/?p=9974 Every year, Monarch butterflies fly more than 4,000 kilometres from Canada to Mexico.

Until recently, no-one was sure how the Monarch butterfly knew the exact path to take that would ensure it would end up at its intended destination after such a long flight.

Now Canadian scientists believe they have discovered the secret to the butterfly's internal sense of direction.

Scientists wanted to know if the Monarchs used a type of "internal compass" or an "internal map." Some animals and birds have both.

To find out, researchers tested the butterflies by starting them different locations than they normally would. Ryan Norris, an associate professor of biology at the University of Guelph, started them on their journey from Guelph, Ontario and Calgary, Alberta.

World’s First Private Spacecraft Makes Successful Trip To International Space Station https://teachingkidsnews.com/2012/06/05/worlds-first-private-spacecraft-makes-successful-trip-to-international-space-station/ https://teachingkidsnews.com/2012/06/05/worlds-first-private-spacecraft-makes-successful-trip-to-international-space-station/#comments Wed, 06 Jun 2012 02:47:25 +0000 https://teachingkidsnews.com/?p=6829 Governments from just a handful of countries have flown into space.

But never has a private company successfully sent a spacecraft into space.

Not only is it extremely expensive, but it’s incredibly risky. There are a million things that can go wrong.

Last month an American company called Space Exploration Technologies – better known as SpaceX – made history by sending its unmanned Dragon spacecraft into space.
