The Buffalo Bills football team hasn't been in the playoffs for a long time. In fact, the last time was in 2000--more than 17 years ago. They were the last team in any of the four major sports in North America (football, baseball, basketball, hockey) to make the playoffs in the 21st Century. Now that's a drought!*
But that all changed this year and the Buffalo Bills got to go to the playoffs.

Is it the action? The drama? The competition? The incredible athletes?

Most likely, everyone's answer is a little different. However, no matter what brought the millions of viewers worldwide to their TVs, this year's NFL championship game, The Super Bowl had it all.

Super Bowl More Like Super Blowout https://teachingkidsnews.com/2014/02/03/1-super-bowl-wrap/ Tue, 04 Feb 2014 03:17:17 +0000 https://teachingkidsnews.com/?p=12244 The Seattle Seahawks won Super Bowl XLVIII in grand style. Seattle crushed Denver 43-8.

Seattle’s number-one ranked defence was commanding. In fact, the defense of Seattle kept Denver scoreless for the first half of the game.

Denver’s number-one ranked offence was pathetic.

It was the first time since 1990 that both the number one-offence and the number-one defence played against each other in the Super Bowl.

Peyton Manning, Denver’s quarterback did try his best, though. He set a record with 33 completions (the number of times a ball is successfully passed to a teammate). Nevertheless, he had a night to forget.

The National Football League… Expect the Unexpected https://teachingkidsnews.com/2013/09/23/expect-unexpected-national-football-league/ Tue, 24 Sep 2013 02:31:24 +0000 https://teachingkidsnews.com/?p=11022 The NFL (National Football League) is in full swing and many exciting stories have already begun to unfold.

Although the league opened just three weeks ago, teams have already surprised their fans, for better and for worse.

Seven of the 32 teams in the league are now 3-0 (3 wins – no losses).

But it may not be the teams you would expect.

Favourites such as The Seattle Seahawks, The Denver Broncos and The New England Patriots are 3-0, but so are The Kansas City Chiefs, The Miami Dolphins, The Chicago Bears, and The New Orleans Saints—four teams that didn’t even make the playoffs last year.

The Super Bowl is professional football’s biggest and most important game.

Baltimore won 34 to 31.

Going into the Super Bowl, neither team was heavily favoured to win.

However, by half-time the score was 21 to 6 for the Ravens.

At the beginning of the second half there was an interesting play.

Jacoby Jones returned the opening kick-off for a 108-yard touchdown. It is tied for the longest kick-off return ever made.

Bad Calls By Replacement Refs Irritating NFL Players, Fans https://teachingkidsnews.com/2012/09/25/1-bad-calls-irritating-nfl-players/ Wed, 26 Sep 2012 01:49:21 +0000 https://teachingkidsnews.com/?p=7440 In any sport, referees sometimes make mistakes.

After all, no one’s perfect.

But major league football teams have been irritated by the unusually high number of bad mistakes made by the referees these days, including a bizarre call on Monday night.

The National Football League (NFL) is using stand-in refs.

The league’s usual referees are in a contract dispute and are unable to reach a new collective bargaining agreement.

So the NFL has brought in replacement refs that aren’t as well trained or as experienced.

And they’re making some bad calls.

On Monday night, there was an especially poor call made by a ref that directly affected the outcome of a game.
