The European Union is a group of 28 countries in Europe that have agreed to co-operate—to all become one group, in many ways. For instance, people in European Union countries can travel, live and work easily in any other EU country. And businesses that are in the European Union can send products back and forth more easily. Nineteen of the EU countries all use the same money--the Euro.
On Thursday, June 23 there was a very important vote.

The First Mummy In 3,000 Years https://teachingkidsnews.com/2011/10/27/the-first-mummy-in-3000-years/ Thu, 27 Oct 2011 23:32:06 +0000 https://teachingkidsnews.com/?p=3889 The body of Alan Billis, who died of cancer recently will be the first one in the modern world to be mummified like the ancient Egyptians were.

While he was terminally ill with lung cancer, Billis—a taxi driver in the UK—signed up for the procedure.

Dr. Stephen Buckley is a scientist who has been working for nearly 20 years to figure out how to mummify bodies in the same way Egyptian bodies like Tutankhamun’s were preserved.

His process was filmed for a television documentary on Britain’s Channel Four TV station.

Artist Only Draws In His Sleep https://teachingkidsnews.com/2011/09/19/artist-only-draws-in-his-sleep/ Mon, 19 Sep 2011 13:09:31 +0000 https://teachingkidsnews.com/?p=3171 Lee Hadwin is a talented artist. He has drawn sketches of horses, celebrities, and beautiful landscapes. He only draws in black and white. Oh, and there is one other thing. Hadwin only draws in his sleep.

Ever since he was about four years old, he has been waking up to discover detailed drawings beside his bed.

But he doesn’t remember ever having done the drawings.

When he is awake, Hadwin says he can’t draw at all. In fact, he has no interest in art. During the day, he works as a nurse.

When he was young, Hadwin, who now lives in London, England, used to cover his walls and tables with his sketches.

In his teens, the drawings became more detailed and intricate.
